William Rossel - longtime disciple of legendary Tabla Maestro, Padma Shri Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri - is a talented and versatile tabla player, educator, archivist, and musical innovator.

He was initiated in Hindustani classical music over 20 years ago by sitarist Nalini Vinayak, and has been training under Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri at the Ali Akbar College of Music since 2006.
In 2010 - under the mentorship of his Guru - William earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in North Indian Classical Music Performance, from the California Institute of the Arts.

William has performed with such prominent artists as Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Ustad Alam Khan, Sri Arjun Verma, Sri Manik Khan, Sri Suman Laha, and many others. He has performed at prestigious venues in the U.S. and abroad, including the Ali Akbar College of Music, the Aashish Khan School of World Music (Kolkata), the War Memorial Opera House (San Francisco), SPIC MACAY (New Delhi), the Harbourfront Performing Arts Center (Toronto), the San Francisco Asian Art Museum, the Fort Mason Center of Arts and Culture, and many others.

William is Designer, Principle Archivist, and sitting Board Member of the Swapan Chaudhuri Digital Tabla Library, an online database dedicated to the preservation of the teaching and performance legacy of his Guru.

He is also the creator of the Tihai Clock, and Tihai Pro (an App available for iPhone and iPad) which are a unique means of calculating North Indian rhythmic patterns known as Tihai.

William is a longtime faculty member of the Ali Akbar College of Music. He is a Professor in the Music Department at Yuba College, where he is Director of the YC Indian Music Ensemble, which he created in 2016. He is also a Lecturer at the California College of the Arts, where he teaches World Music.

William lives in San Anselmo, California, where he teaches tabla privately from his home, and through the Ali Akbar College of Music.
